Big Brother 16 — Frankie Tells The Truth Maybe

by Lisa Marie Bowman on August 9, 2014

Hi y’all!

Yesterday, I was all excited because Nicole had put Frankie and Caleb up on the block and Caleb was making a big deal about how he was planning on throwing the challenge.  It looked like Frankie was finally going to have to face all of the other houseguests.  It looked like Frankie’s fate would depend on whether or not he managed to win the veto.

Well, guess what.  Even without Caleb’s help, Frankie managed to win the battle of the block.  Frankie is now safe for the rest of the week.  Christine is now the Head of Household.  Donny and Zach are the nominees for eviction and, unless Donny manages to win the veto later today, it looks like he might be heading to the jury house.

From the minute the feeds came back from the Battle of the Block and everyone learned that Frankie had somehow managed to win, the accusations started to fly on twitter.  Let’s just say that right now, there’s a lot of people who are convinced that Frankie is Alison Grodner’s favorite and that the Battle of the Block was specifically set up to allow him to win.  They point out that Frankie has lived an oddly charmed life inside the Big Brother house, that he was specifically recruited to be on the show, and that Victoria may have been told by the Diary Room that she was not allowed to reveal that identity of Frankie’s sister.

Me, I’m not prepared to immediately assume that there’s a conspiracy in the works.  I’m going to wait until I see the Battle of the Block on Sunday before I pass any sort of judgment.  But there is no denying that Frankie has often been the center of attention of the show this year.  And there is no denying that Frankie is probably seen as being good for getting a younger demographic to watch the show.  (Most of Ariana Grande’s tween fans would probably not be watching the show if it was just Donny and Derrick.)  And, as we all know, there is no denying that Grodner does play favorites.

Anyway, last night, Frankie went ahead and announced to everyone that his sister is Ariana Grande and he then went on to say that he has a million social media fans, that he’s an entertainment mogul (but also, apparently, a struggling New York artist as well — you can’t have it both ways, Frankie!), and that he’s planning on using the money to build schools in Africa.

To which I have to say, “Really, Frankie?”  This is the first time that I’ve ever heard Frankie mention that he needed to win the money so he could build schools in Africa.  He mentioned nothing about this is any of the interviews that he did before entering the Big Brother house.  And, quite frankly, Frankie’s sister makes more money in a day than Frankie will get if he manages to win Big Brother.  So, if he’s really planning on building schools in Africa, it seems like a better plan would be to maybe ask his sister for help than to go on a reality television show.

Don’t get me wrong.  I’m not saying that Frankie won’t use the money for charity and good for him if he does.  I’m just saying that it seems awfully convenient for him to chose this time to reveal that he’s doing all of this for charity.

The house guests had pretty mixed feelings towards Frankie’s big reveal.  Caleb’s reaction was priceless because he replied that he had no idea who Ariana Grande is but he was excited to hear that Frankie could maybe help him meet Justin Beiber.  (I’ve decided that Caleb is essentially a 13 year-old girl.)  Zach actually said that they should let Frankie win so that he can use that money to build schools in Africa.  Cody, and especially Derrick, were angered by Frankie’s admission. Donny, who knows that he’s in very real danger of going home, mostly seemed to be depressed.

As for the girls — Nicole is now convinced that America hates her because she tried to put up Ariana’s brother.  Victoria was excited but, to her credit, she also pointed out that Frankie doesn’t deserve any special treatment just because of who his sister is.  Christine, meanwhile, is convinced that Frankie can help her husband out with his musical career.

(That would be the same husband who is currently watching his wife spend all of her spare time cuddling with Cody.)

As for me, I wish we could just have one season where the players could actually start out on an equal playing field.  If you’re going to ask the audience at home to vote for their favorite players to get special treatment (like being a member of Team America or America’s Player or anything else) then its’ only fair to give us players who don’t already have a built-in fan base.

Just my opinion,

Lisa Marie

Big Brother 16 — Finally!

by Lisa Marie Bowman on August 8, 2014

Hi y’all:

So, this is going to be a quick update because I’m about to go out for the night but I wanted to let you know that someone in the Big Brother house has finally gotten smart and nominated …. FRANKIE!

Here’s the recap:

Caleb’s HoH came to a mercifully quick end last night when the 2nd HoH competition was held and was won by … Nicole and Christine!  And as you can probably guess, the Detonators — especially Frankie — freaked out because they had just been responsible for evicting Nicole’s boyfriend, Hayden.  Frankie, of course, attempted to do some damage control but you could tell that Nicole wasn’t buying much of anything that he had to say.

Oddly enough, Nicole is instead interested in working with Zach.  And, since Zach has a crush on Nicole, he’s interested in working with her.  Even more interesting than that is the fact that it appears that Zach now knows that, until they decided to vote out Jocasta instead, Frankie was totally willing to help evict him from the house.  And, as annoying as Zach is, I did have to feel a little bit sorry for him because the very real pain of betrayal was all over his face last night.

Originally, it seemed like we’d another week of boring nominations.

Christine decided early on to nominate Zach and Donny.

Nicole originally said she was going to nominate Victoria and Caleb but, when it came time to make the actual nominations, Nicole again proved herself to be smarter than a lot of us originally assumed.

She nominated Caleb and Frankie!

And, believe it or not, Caleb has said that he’s planning on blatantly throwing the Battle of the Block so that he and Frankie remain the nominees.  Caleb no longer trusts Frankie and wants to see him out of the house.

As of this writing, the Battle of the Block has not been played.  It’ll be interesting to see if Caleb stays true to his word and if Frankie is finally going to be nominated for eviction.

Personally, I hope Caleb does through the competition and I hope he and Frankie remain the nominees.  For weeks, we’ve been saying that the house needs to be shaken up and it looks like Nicole has finally stepped up to do it.

Stay supple,

Lisa Marie

Big Brother 16 — Double Eviction ReCap

by Lisa Marie Bowman on August 7, 2014

Hi, y’all!

If you haven’t gotten a chance to see the Big Brother double eviction yet or if you’re still waiting for it to be shown in your part of the world because it was preempted by football, stop reading now because everything that follows is going to be a big old spoiler.

So, Thursday’s show started out with us getting a very quick recap of how, last night, the plan shifted from evicting Zach to evicting Jocasta.  And, believe it or not, it appears that it was largely due to Caleb pointing out that the Detonators had the votes to control the house as long as Zach wasn’t voted out.  For once, Caleb truly was the king of the house.  It was interesting (and for me, more than a little annoying) to watch as Christine went from gleefully plotting to vote out Zach to pretending that she was shocked to discover that Zach had been the target.  Anyway, both Derrick and Cody decided to keep Zach in the house and, in typical Derrick style, they managed to convince Frankie that it was all his idea.

Watching all of this, I realized a few things.

1) Christine is the biggest fake in the house.

2) Frankie is very easy to manipulate.

3) Derrick is as smart as he thinks he is but he also has a tendency to overthink.  His scheme to get rid of Zach was already overly complicated and it could have very easily blown up in his face this week.

4) Cody is very smart to basically just do whatever Derrick wants.  Not only is it going to keep Cody in the house but, if their scheming should ever be discovered by the rest of the house, chances are that everyone will go after Derrick and leave Cody in the house.

5) As far as I’m concerned, Caleb will always be Beat Mode Jackass but he can still occasionally be a strong player.

Anyway, we then moved onto the first eviction.  Zach’s speech was a long poem.  Jocasta’s speech was a typical Jocasta speech.  Everyone voted.  Jocasta was voted out and is now the first member of the jury!  Interestingly enough, Nicole and Hayden were obviously shocked to see Jocasta go but Jocasta was not.  Jocasta knew she was being voted out because Derrick apparently told her earlier today that he didn’t have the votes to “save” her.  (Derrick wants her jury vote.)

We then moved onto the HoH competition, which was won by Caleb.  Watching the HoH Competition, I quickly came to realize that I am totally over Zach.  Yes, he’s funny.  Yes, it’s good to have an instigator to keep things interesting.  Yes, the house would be boring if he was gone.  But seriously, Zach is a jerk and not, as I originally suspected, a likable one either.  His hyperactive clapping and cheering quickly got on my nerves tonight and, quite frankly, it leads me to wonder if Zach has any idea how close he came to getting voted out.

And speaking of being over people, you can include Frankie in that group as well.  Frankie’s desperate need to always be the center of attention is no longer entertaining or charming.  It’s just needy and desperate.  After tonight, I’ve had about enough of listening to Frankie randomly use different accents while speaking.

Continuing to speak of being over people, Beast Mode Jackass won HoH and quickly turned into Beast Mode Condescending Jerk as he announced his nominations.  Hayden and Donny went on the block.  However, Donny then managed to win the POV.  Now, I don’t know about anyone else, but I was actually concerned when Donny collapsed after hitting the buzzer.  On twitter, I found myself wondering if Donny was dead.

Well, he wasn’t.  He was exhausted and he had earned the right to be exhausted.  To be honest, Donny regained a little bit of my respect tonight.  He showed that when he has to, he can be a fighter.

After Donny won the POV, the viewers were invited to vote on Team America’s next assignment.  Sorry, I didn’t pay attention to either option because not only am I over Zach and Frankie, but I’m kind of over Team America as well.  Unless one of the options is for one or two of the members of Team America to self-evict, I think I’m finished voting for Team America assignments.

Donny used the veto.  Caleb told Nicole to take a seat with her “little boyfriend up there.”  The studio audience gasped, as if they were apparently previously under the impression that Caleb wasn’t a jerk.

Both Hayden and Nicole gave their speeches and both of them called out both Frankie and Christine.  And good for them!  Because, even if they seem strong right now, the Detonators are going to start turning on each other eventually and the only way for the house outsiders to survive is for them to plant those seeds of doubt.

And it was time to vote again!

Nicole got two votes.

Hayden got five.

I felt bad seeing Hayden go.  I think the house really benefited from his mellow stoner vibe.  But, at the same time, Hayden seemed to take it well and, at the very least, he came across as more sincere in his exit interview with Julie than Jocasta had.  At the very least, Hayden’s eviction seemed to set Nicole off so maybe now the outsiders will actually start to fight back.

But what good will fighting back do?

As Caleb pointed out last night, they have the numbers.

Anyway, as things stand now, the Detonators are in complete control.  Caleb is currently HoH and he was just on the LFs saying that he hopes that he’ll get a letter from Amber as a result.  Shut up, Caleb.

A new HoH will soon be picked.  And, despite my earlier prediction to the contrary, the double HoH thing is going to continue.  It was suspended for tonight only.

And that was Thursday’s double eviction!  I’ll miss Hayden but not Jocasta.

(Then again, Julie hinted that at least one jury member would be returning to the house, like they did with Judd last season.)

Stay supple,

Lisa Marie

Big Brother 16 — Let’s Go Ahead And Do This!

by Lisa Marie Bowman on August 6, 2014

Hi, y’all:

So, is everyone excited for the double eviction on Thursday night?  I know I am, even though I’m going to have to watch it on Channel 21 because the Chargers are playing the Cowboys tomorrow night and my local CBS affiliate is going to be showing the football game.  BLEH!  Who cares about football when there’s a double eviction going on!?

Anyway, I’m so excited for the DE that I’m going to go ahead and open the diary room here on the site.  Who do you want to be the first person evicted on Thursday night?

Would you vote to evict…

Jocasta the Sobber (a.k.a. Holy Roller), the minister who thinks she has more personality than she does

Or

Zack the Maniac (a.k.a. Zack Attack), the instigator who would probably do better in the game if he had a little less personality?

Cast your vote now!  You can cast it in the comments below or over on the right side of the screen.  Vote and make your voice heard!

Lisa Marie

P.S. Who do you think will the second victim of Thursday’s double eviction?  I’ll be back tomorrow night with a full report about whatever ends up happening!

Big Brother 16 — This Year’s Dan?

by Lisa Marie Bowman on August 5, 2014

Hi y’all:

Well, I am just about ready to declare that Derrick may be the closest thing that this season has to having a Dan Gheesling of its very own.  In true Dan fashion, Derrick has managed to run the house even when he wasn’t head of household.  When he was Head of Household, he avoided any hurt feeling by going out of his way to evict someone who everyone in the house hated.  Derrick has managed to control every eviction without ever getting any blood on his hands.

You would think that Nicole becoming Head of Household would have hurt Derrick’s game.  After all, Nicole was not a member of Derrick’s alliance and she had absolutely no reason to keep him safe or listen to anything he had to say.  Instead, Derrick turned Nicole into an ally.  And, even though Nicole is the one who made the nominations this week, Derrick is still the one who has decided who is actually going to go home.

And who is that person going to be?  You may remember that yesterday, I said that there was still a chance that Jocasta could go home, depending mostly on how Derrick and Cody decided to vote.  And I was happy about that because Zach, love him or hate him, is more interesting to watch than Jocasta.

Well, that silver of possibility has disappeared because Derrick has made his decision.  He and Cody are going to vote to evict Zach and Derrick has pretty much convinced the rest of the house to follow his lead.  Last night, Derrick even managed to talk Frankie into voting to evict Zach.  And it was a lot of fun to watch as Derrick manipulated Frankie into essentially thinking that it was Frankie’s idea to evict Zach, as opposed to Derrick’s.  Derrick, for the most part, did it by pointing out that Zach is a bit of a wild card emotionally and that he had previously made a final three deal with Derrick and Cody.  By the time that Derrick was finished talking to Frankie, Frankie seemed to seriously believe that he was the one who had talked Derrick into voting out Zach.

The conversation, which started around 7:30 pm BBT and ended about 30 minutes later, was interesting to watch.  If anything, it perfectly illustrated the difference between a player who thinks that he’s in charge of the game (i.e. Zach) and a player who actually is in charge (like Derrick).

So, though he may not realize it, Zach’s fate has pretty much been sealed.  Jocasta is safe but, just in case, she’s spent a lot of time today talking about how she’s not feeling well.

It’ll be interesting to see how Derrick handles the double eviction.  Will he manage to keep control or will the rush and chaos of doing a week’s worth of Big Brother in one hour lead to the house doing something unexpected?

We’ll find out on Thursday!

Lisa Marie

Hi y’all!

Well, today was a historic moment as far as the 16th season of Big Brother is concerned.  For the first time since this season began, a veto meeting was held and the veto was NOT used.  That’s right — Christine did not use the veto and that means that, on Thursday, either Jocasta or Zach will be leaving the house.  (Quickly followed by someone else — yay for the double eviction!)

Things aren’t really looking very good for Zach right now and what’s really sad is that Zach doesn’t seem to realize it.  He and Frankie both seem to be pretty confident that the Detonators and Caleb will all vote to evict Jocasta, therefore allowing Zach to remain in the house.  What they amazingly have yet to figure out is that Derrick and Cody have got a side alliance going with Hayden and Nicole.  And, while both Derrick and Cody originally tried to convince Nicole that Jocasta should be the one going home, Nicole’s target remains Zach.

While both Cody and Derrick still seem like they could go either way right now, both of them seem to be warming up to the idea of voting out Zach.  If Cody and Derrick decided to join Hayden, Donny, and presumably Victoria in voting for Zach, that would lead to Zach going home.

And even beyond Cody and Derrick, Zach doesn’t seem to have Christine’s vote either.  In her typical floater way, Christine has pretty much been agreeing with whomever she talking to at any given minute about who needs to go home this week.  I have a feeling that she’ll probably end up voting with the majority.  One thing for sure is that Christine certainly doesn’t like Zach and who can blame her?  What’s sad is that the whole reason Christine hates Zach — the speech that he gave when he nominated her — was because of Team America encouraging him to go overboard and try to start a fight.  It seems that every season we get another controversy about how the producers try to manipulate the show.  This year’s controversy will definitely be whether or not the whole Team America twist ruined Zach’s game or would Zach have been just as abrasive even if he hadn’t had Team America encouraging him.

Now, things could change.  Derrick and Cody could decide that they’d rather be Detonators than Rationals.  Frankie or Zach could realize what’s going on and react by making a deal with someone like Christine or even Victoria.  But, since Zach doesn’t really seem to understand that he’s in very real danger of leaving the house, he hasn’t been campaigning the way that he should.

So, sad to say, it looks like Zach might be leaving on Thursday.  And it is sad for the viewers because, love him or hate him, Zach was always entertaining.  In a house full of people who always seem to be playing it safe, Zach could always be counted on to say something outrageous and to act as an instigator.  If Zach is voted out, I will definitely miss hearing his sarcastic responses to Julie Chen’s questions.

Finally, in other Big Brother news, the date of the season finale has been set for September 24th!  Perhaps not surprisingly, a new season of Survivor will be premiering on that date as well.

Big Brother 16 — Yay Me!

by Lisa Marie Bowman on August 3, 2014

Hi, y’all:

Okay, before I start bragging on myself and my twitter account, let’s take care of what really matters.

Now, in case you forgot, here’s the basic details of what’s happening in the house this week.  On Thursday, we’ve got a double eviction and, while the HGs may not know that for sure, quite a few of them to seem to suspect that something “different” is going to happen on Thursday.  That’s not surprising — every season of Big Brother, there’s a double eviction around this time of the year and Donny, as a superfan, should know that.

Nicole is the Head of Household.  For eviction, she nominated Jocasta and Zach.  Yesterday, they had the veto competition.  The competition went on for several hours but, eventually, Christine won the veto.  As of right now, Christine has made it pretty clear that she’s not planning on using the veto which means that, for the first time since this season began, the two original nominees will face the voters on Thursday.

Now, I know that a lot of us — especially me — assumed that Zach would be voted out.  However, I’m no longer a 100% sure of that.  It is true that Derrick and Cody have now formed an alliance (known as the Rationales) with Hayden and Nicole and they both seem to be moving away from the Detonators.  However, both Derrick and Cody have been saying that they would still like to keep Zach in the house because 1) Zach will always be a bigger target than either one of them and 2) that Jocasta is such a pawn that she’s become a threat almost despite herself.  And they’re actually right.  If you’re sitting next to Jocasta on the block, chances are that the rest of the house is going to vote you out before they vote out Jocasta.  Why?  Because Jocasta is, at this point, the weakest player in the house.  Even Victoria, as of late, has been more impressive than Sobbing Jocasta.

Derrick and Cody undoubtedly both realize that they’re going to go up on the block at some point.  I think they’d rather be nominated with someone like Zach or Frankie, as opposed to someone like Jocasta.

Myself, I’d like to see Jocasta go because she gets on my nerves and Zach, as much of a jerk as he often is, at least keeps things interesting.

Christine, meanwhile, has managed to totally alienate Nicole.  Christine’s refusal to use the veto appears to be the final straw and Nicole earlier told the other members of the Rationales that she no longer considers Christine to be a friend.  As a result of her alliance with Frankie, Christine has gone from being a floater to being a huge target.

Who would have guess that Nicole would eventually turn out to be the strongest female in the house?  At this point, my dream ending for Big Brother 16 would be a Nicole/Hayden final two.

Now, a few thoughts on tonight’s episode:

1) It was interesting to hear Zach’s logic behind volunteering to be nominated.  That, along with his decision to throw the HoH competition, makes me wonder where Zach’s head is at because he’s definitely not thinking rationally.

2) I thought the Battle of the Block was actually pretty exciting and Caleb and Victoria deserve all the credit in the world for pulling off that victory.  That said, I had to laugh when Caleb said that he thought he might be able to convince Victoria to shave her head.  Speaking for myself, if I was in the Big Brother house, I would probably allow myself to be evicted before I even considered letting  anyone touch my hair.

3) I can’t help but wonder how Nicole’s friend Mariah reacted to Caleb’s sudden interest in her.

4) It was sweet watching Donny read his letter.

Finally, as I always do, I live-tweeted tonight’s episode and one of my tweets was RT’d by the @CBSBigBrother account!  And, after that happened, that one tweet was soon favorited and retweeted by nearly two hundred other Big Brother fans, which allowed me to both set a personal record for RTs and Favs and gain about a dozen new followers.  Yay and thank you, @CBSBigBrother!

Big Brother 16 — Exploding Detonators

by Lisa Marie Bowman on August 2, 2014

Hi y’all!

Well, I wasn’t planning on posting until after the veto comp but its looks like they won’t be holding the competition until later tonight.  (Actually, it started while I was typing this post — LMB)  Apparently, the BB construction crew has been working out in the back yard for a good couple of hours so I’ll definitely be curious to see what they were building.

So, here’s how the house stands right now:

After the Battle of the Block, Nicole is now the HoH.  Zach and Jocasta have been nominated for eviction.  If Zach doesn’t win the power of veto, there seems to be a pretty good chance that he’ll be the one going home.  It’s not so much that he’s a strong player as much as he managed to tick everyone off last week.  Some of Zach’s fans on twitter are convinced that Zach’s fall from grace is totally the result of Team America manipulating him into acting like a jerk.  There’s some truth to that but then again, Team America wouldn’t have necessarily attempted to manipulate Zach if not for the fact that Zach had given them plenty of reasons to suspect that he could easily be convinced to act like a jerk.

So, Zach has to win this veto if he wants to stay in the house.  And he may have a chance of doing just that because the other players competing for the veto are: Nicole, Christine, Jocasta, Caleb, and Victoria.  Jocasta and Victoria have already proven themselves to be pretty much of a nonfactor when it comes to winning competitions.  (Victoria did win the POV once but that was largely due to Caleb.)  So, really, all Zach has to do is beat Nicole, Christine, and Caleb.

If the veto is used, Nicole seems to be pretty determined to nominate Frankie as a replacement.  What’s interesting about this is that Frankie doesn’t seem to realize that he’s in danger of going up on the block.  Frankie instead seems to think that Donny will go up as the replacement nominee.

But, whether Frankie realizes it or not, the house has really started to turn against him.  Not only are his fellow HGs realizing that Frankie is too big of a player to be left in the house but he’s also been showing off a nasty sense of entitlement.  Last night, despite no longer being HoH, he still decided that he would spend the night sleeping in the HoH room without asking Nicole beforehand.  This, more than anything, seems to have turned Nicole against Frankie.

So, if Jocasta wins the veto or if the veto is not used, Zach will probably go home.  Even if he’s sitting next to Frankie, chances are that Zach has burned so many bridges that the HGs will still vote him out before voting out a stronger player.

If Zach wins the veto, it’s a bit harder to predict what will happen.  Derrick has hinted that he would prefer to keep Frankie around, even to the extent that he would go against the HoH and campaign against Jocasta.  Zach, undoubtedly, would vote to keep Frankie.  As far as the Detonators are concerned, Cody and Christine are the two wildcards in that situation.  Would Donny vote to evict a fellow member of Team America?  Has Caleb figured out that Frankie is not his ally?  These are all relevant questions but, in the end, I get the feeling Frankie would end up being the one evicted.  He’s too strong of a player not to be a target and the house is definitely turning against him.

We’ll know more soon because, even as I type this, they are playing for the veto!

Big Brother 16 — All Apologies

by Lisa Marie Bowman on August 1, 2014

Hi, everyone!

I hope you all will be able to forgive me but I’ve got some personal things that I have to deal with today so this is going to be a very short post.  I’m just going to let you know what has happened in the house since last night’s episode and I’ll save the analysis for another day.

Okay, as we all know — Amber got voted out.  She did not get a single vote.  Even Caleb — after having been told that Amber was thinking of coming after him — voted to evict her.  And, just in case you needed another reason to lose all respect for Caleb, he also made a big deal of putting a crown on his head and declaring himself to be the king of the house.

However, it looks like the king is getting close to being dethroned.

Donny and Nicole won the HoH Competition!

Donny nominated Caleb and Victoria for elimination.

Nicole nominated Zach and Jocasta for elimination.

(Zach, incidentally, volunteered to be nominated.  I’m assuming that he thinks he can win the Battle of the Block.)

Battle of the Block will be fought later today!

Finally, next Thursday is a double eviction night!  Now, hopefully, this double eviction will go better than last year’s double eviction.  Last year, as I’m sure we all remember, saw the perfectly harmless Judd voted out of the house because Amanda was convinced that he was the MVP and Helen kept telling Aaryn that she was now Janelle.  Yeah, it was not a great moment in Big Brother history.  Hopefully, this year, the Double Eviction will actually mean something.

Also, I’m going to make a prediction that this is the last week that we’ll have two HoHs.  With a double eviction scheduled for next week, I just don’t see how they’ll have time to do a Battle of the Block along with the vote, the HoH comp, the nominations, the veto, the next vote, and a second HoH comp.

Anyway, that’s it for now.

Stay supple,

Lisa Marie
