Diary Room Is Open: Cast Your Vote!

by soonerryan on August 15, 2007

Campaigning has begun in the Big Brother 8 house in anticipation of what could be the shock of the season. Speculation still swirls that Dustin could be evicted in a live vote Thursday, leaving evel Dick in the house and Big Brother 8’s ratings in tact.

Why do we think this?

Because America’s Player Eric is workin’ it, girlfriend. He’s in Jessica’s ear, and combined with Daniele and potentially Zach, they’d have enough to oust Dustin. Now, Jessica doesn’t get to ‘vote,’ per se, but she’s the tiebreaker should the vote end up 3 to 3.

Eric is obligated to cast America’s vote, but he only gets his money if Dustin goes. While he is NOT obligated to campaign for Dustin, this is a profitable enterprise for the 27-year-old New Yorker. Plus, what fun is it if America’s Player doesn’t get in there and do our bidding.

And right now, it appears America wants the shocker to happen on Thursday night.

But what about the Big Brother Blog community? The online Diary room is open, and this is how it works. Each of you cast your vote to evict either Dustin or Dick (do it in the comments under this post), and please explain why.

At 11 p.m. CDT (9 p.m. BBT), I’ll tally the votes and then write a majority opinion for the lot of us, declaring who we as a blog choose to send to the sequester house. So, let us know … who’s gotta go?

Back from the Tuesday night airing of our favorite summer show, and as Lisa noted in the comments on the last post, we do have an update as to the surprise.

Daniele was born on Aug. 20, 1986, which means she turns 21 next Monday. The other houseguests — except for Dick, who according to Jameka didn’t show up for Daniele’s birth because of some intoxication issue (who knows) — don’t know that Daniele is under age.

It used to be that Big Brother would allow people under 21 in the house. There have been some 19 year olds for example, but the rule now is that you have to be 21 or at least turn 21 during the competition. And what looked to be a special power now looks to be a special treat for Daniele’s special day.

Somebody whose name starts with “A,” almost certainly Big Brother executive producer Alison Grodner, has informed Daniele that she’ll be getting a letter. Daniele thinks it’s from Nick, and I’m not sure why she wouldn’t think it was from Kris.

Sorry, Kris, she’s pretty much done with you, man.

There was also talk of a margarita party, although I think it might have been Daniele wishing that they would give her a margarita party. Nevertheless, if Dick had found a new power, you wouldn’t have known it by their private conversation on Tuesday night.

He’s pretty sure he’s headed home, and although he had a discussion with Eric and Jessica planned soon, there’s no guarantee that the momentum we thought was there for evel Dick is actually there. If I had to speculate right now, I’d bet my life that Dick has two votes — Eric and Daniele.

I’d bet my life that Jameka will vote to evict Dick, and I’d bet a set of golf clubs (cheap ones) that Amber votes to evict Dick.

Everybody else is up in the air. My hunch right now is that Dick has some work to do to get Jen and Zach, and if I can try to get into the head of Zach the Creeper, I suspect his strategy is to split Dick and Daniele.

He’s looking to ensure his safety week to week, and if he can please the group this week, he can stay safe next week. I believe that to be his line of thinking, which is why I think he’s not inclined to evict Dustin just yet.

There’s plenty of time still left until the live eviction on Thursday, and we’ll open the big-brother-blog.com diary room (tomorrow, not yet) for you to cast your vote to evict either Dick or Dustin. At 11 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, I’ll tally the figures, and we’ll issue our writ of habeas evictus before Thursday morning.

In the meantime, Daniele is really worried that the producers will tell the other houseguests that she’s just now turning 21. She’s begged them to keep it a secret. Let’s ask the blog — do you think the show producers should tell the other houseguests that she’s just now turning 21? Do you think it’s even a big deal that Daniele fibbed about her age? (Daniele seems to think it is).

Has Dick Won The Coup D’Etat?

by soonerryan on August 14, 2007

Talkin’ some game here at work, and a look at the live feeds from overnight and a read of the boards suggest the possibility that something big has been achieved by somebody or some people in the house.

The word on the street is that it could be this year’s version of the coup d’etat.

First, it really does appear as if Dick’s staying this week. He’s warmed up to both Jessica and Eric, and the lot of them (including Daniele) could be forming the season’s most powerful alliance. Given that this season has largely been divided by those who hate Eric and those who hate Dick, this possible alliance is pretty much akin to the Americans and Russians striking a deal in the 1980s.

However, there’s something else at play here. Apparently, both Dick and Daniele have discovered a message on a wall that relates to some chess pieces that relates to the game, a discovery that prompted an immediate diary session and a ton of excitement.

Could it be that Dick can veto the vote come Thursday night?

Could it be that Nick is coming back? Rumor has it that Nick is hanging out in L.A. this week.

Maybe he and Daniele have discovered the America’s Player twist, and there is something powerful about having discovered it?

Perhaps Dick gets to replace an evicted Dustin with his frenemy, Joe, a proposition Dick might enjoy given his feelings toward Dustin right now.

Bottom line: Something big has happened, and it definitely looks like good news for Dick and Daniele. And it also looks like the Dick and Eric camps are about to come together something fierce, which could give us our first peek at the Final Four.

Your thoughts?

Done Deal: It’s Dick vs. Dustin

by soonerryan on August 13, 2007

Something’s brewing in the Big Brother house, and we could be in store for another week of high drama. As of about an hour ago, Dick took his daughter off the block, and Jessica replaced Daniele with Dustin.

It was Dustin who initially suggested he be put up, as a pawn to Dick. In fact, Dustin bragged about how he would have a speech ready come Thursday night, a soliloquy in which he’d proclaim himself the courtesy flush to Dick’s “piece of crap.”

Uh, you might want to hold it there, buddy.

Because if this vote were to go down right now, the 22-year-old salesman from Chicago might be headed out the door. What makes for even higher drama is that while Dustin would have never believed this initially, he’s starting to believe it now. His doubts about Eric’s vote caused him to rethink his suggestion, a move that drew a cool response from his LNC-leftover buddies.

“So, why you wanna change your mind like that?”

If America votes to have Eric vote to evict Dustin, then Dustin’s concerns will have been well-founded. I predict Dustin will be in bad shape by Thursday.

Let the drama begin.

Diary Room Is Open: What Will Dick Do? (WWDD)

by soonerryan on August 13, 2007

The rumors are flying.

Dick’s going to use the PoV on himself, and Jessica will put up Jen as a replacement.

Dick’s going to use the PoV on Daniele, and Jessica will put up Dustin as a “pawn”.

There’s even a rumor going — no kidding — that the producers have something in the works that would make this a non-elimination week and next week a double-elimination week. Seriously.

Rumors. Rumors. Rumors.

So until we know what happens at the PoV ceremony, we want you to tell us what you would do if you were Dick. Think about it from HIS perspective, not the other houseguests. What’s his best play here, and what can he do to save himself from eviction this week if he doesn’t use the PoV on himself?

What Would Dick Do? What WILL Dick Do?

Dick Wins PoV, Plans To Save … Them Both?

by soonerryan on August 12, 2007

For those of you who don’t know by now, evel Dick was Saturday’s PoV winner, part of a competition involving croquet and gross drinks.

Good news for evel Dick fans, right?

Well, not exactly. It appears he’ll use it to save Daniele, which is the nice, fatherly thing to do. However, I don’t know that I’d discount Dick just yet.

There are only six votes this week, and Dick on the block automatically has Daniele. I suspect strongly he’ll have Eric’s, too. Love him or hate him, Dick is popular with America, and I can’t imagine they’d make Eric vote to evict Dick.

What I’m suggesting here is that Dick automatically has two votes in my book. One more, and you’ve got a big decision for Jessica. Two more, and Dick and Daniele have pulled off a stunning week of survival.

As of 1:15 BBT, all’s pretty quiet in the Big Brother house. Last I saw, Zach was on a treadmill, and Dick was outside smoking. However, the master of evel is working to plant the seeds of dissension between Eric and Dustin.

He is working to secure Zach as an ally, and even Daniele has been pretty nice to him.

And the D&D relationship with Jen isn’t nearly as bad as it used to be.

What Dick must do is to set the groundwork for Jessica to put up Dustin as a pawn this week. Dustin wants it, has practically begged for it, and he thinks that it would come back a 6-0 vote to evict Dick.

He’s wrong. So, we’re at a crossroads for the Nerd Herd. If Jessica puts Dustin up, it spells the beginning of the end for this group because being on the block is highly stressful and conducive to what I’d call “panic speech.” Dustin could be prone to digging himself a hole from which he couldn’t climb.

Bottom line, presuming Dick doesn’t use the PoV on himself, I think Dick goes home if Jessica puts up Jen or Zach. However, let Jessica put Dustin up, and I betcha, just betcha, we’ll have an exciting live vote come Thursday.

Pre-PoV Warm-Up Party — Dick vs. Jameka, Part III

by soonerryan on August 11, 2007

We’re not far from the PoV competition, and evel Dick is workin’ it, getting into people’s heads. Just a few minutes ago BBT, he taunted Jameka while she was getting breakfast and got up right in her face. Good times.

Dick also spared no punches with Dustin, and in all — this li’l clip is pretty humorous. To me, it’s pretty clear that this type of taunting is strategic. We’re just an hour away from PoV. Jameka’s been picked to play. Whether it works or not, stick right here at big-brother-blog.com to find out, or sign up to get e-mail notices whenever something new gets posted.

As far as everything else in the house, the women did show some solidarity last night, giving hope to the notion that the LNC leftovers could be splintered soon. Talk of Dustin being used as a pawn has quieted, and talk of Jen being that person (pawn or not) has warmed to at least a simmer.

So, given that we have some time to kill until the PoV is done, please enjoy another fine Dick Donato highlight from the Big Brother house.

Nominations Made; Donatos On Block

by soonerryan on August 10, 2007

At this point in the game, those of us who follow the Big Brother 8 house aren’t terribly surprised by anything. Again this week, the nomination ceremony produced expected results.

The Donato family is on the chopping block.

As far as Dick’s concerned, there is no way he’d campaign against his daughter. However, in this clip (at the end of this post), Dustin again reiterates that he’d be willing to go up as a pawn in the event that Daniele wins PoV on Saturday, completely discounting the possibility I suppose that Dick could win it.

Eric agrees, and per discussions earlier in the day between Eric and Zach, it’s pretty clear that America has requisitioned America’s Player to get Dustin nominated. However, Eric did say he’d like to see Dustin “squirm.”

In my estimation, this is going to come back to haunt Eric this week. Not saying he’d get put up on the block by his “best friend,” Jessica, but it’s the type of unwarranted extra comment that could splinter the Nerd Herd. I mean, c’mon, if America wants Dustin nominated, and Dustin is clearly cool with it, why add the extra “so I can see him squirm” part?

On the Big Brother smoking porch, Dick tells Zach to look out for Daniele when he’s gone. While Dick won’t campaign against his daughter, I don’t think he’ll go quietly either. Furthermore, I think abstaining from campaigning might backfire in that, if the houseguests really wanted to torture him, they’d evict Daniele in the face of his resignation.

Meanwhile, the Bible Belt is back at it, with Jameka talking about how God can forgive anything and holding a Bible study with Amber. Amber took some time this afternoon to pray — and if I can find this clip, I’ll post it. I’m told it was humorous to say the least.

But for now, a bit of strategy talk before “girls night” commences. Jessica has invited all the BB women to the HoH room for good times, vino and discussions of existential philosophy and post-modern literature.

Stress Reliever: Funniest Clip Of The Season

by soonerryan on August 10, 2007

As always, thanks to Lisa for the midday recaps in our comments. If you read them, you’ll know that America’s Player Eric has been in discussions with Zach about helping to get Dustin put on the block. Now, I suppose America voted that Eric should work to get him nominated, although I suppose this could have something to do with the hot tub discussion last night, in which the Nerd Herd suggested Dustin go up as a pawn.

Heck, Dustin was the one who introduced the idea.

But before the action and the meltdowns and the arguments and cutthroat plotting get going for the weekend, I thought we should have a laugh. In this clip, which I think is the funniest clip of the season so far, posted to YouTube, an upset Jameka prays feverishly while an aloof Jen in a bunny suit frets over not having any white belts.

I’m sorry. I laughed quite the belly laugh when I saw this, and dare I say it makes me like Jen quite a bit. She’s by far the most “camp” player in the whole game — funny at times without even intending to be. Enjoy.

Video Wrap-Up: Dick vs. Jameka (It’s War)

by soonerryan on August 10, 2007

Wow. Not sure what to say about this video, these first two videos to be exact. In two parts, Jameka and Amber give Dick a taste of his own medicine. In true Dick fashion though, he doesn’t back down one iota.

It makes for great theater, but I should warn you — neither of these first two videos is safe for work. Totally NSFW. Too many “magic words” used, so hide the kiddies. In fact, the magic word gets used, and in my experience, any man who uses this word toward a woman should be prepared for wrath.

However, that doesn’t mean Jameka or Amber were taking the high ground. This is ugliness all around. Good theater, but I don’t actually recall Big Brothers of the past getting THIS ugly. Do you?

Here’s the second part of the tirade, but I should note that Jameka is now planning to apologize to Dick for her behavior. Honestly, while there was a bit of schaudenfreude in seeing her go off on Dick, this is Jameka’s M.O. She blows up, flips and then regrets it later — classic passive/aggressive, no?

Perhaps she’s just psycho. Perhaps Dick had it coming. You tell us (in the comments forum).

The rest of the Nerd Herd sat outside and in the hot tub in hopes of keeping Dick from coming out to smoke. If he does though, believe this, it will be ugly because the house is at war. War.

Here’s Part 2 of Dick vs. Jameka.

In this third video from tonight, Dick tries to console Daniele, reminding her what a good competitor she is and, frankly, being a good dad (well, at least in this video).

Finally, in a lighter moment, new HoH Jessica shows off her room. Notice the look on Eric’s face when she says she’ll wear her sexy boots she got from Big Brother with a skirt.
