Hi everyone!

It’s official!  Big Brother 16 will be starting in late June with the first houseguest being evicted on July 3rd.  So, if nothing else, the first person out of the house will at least get a chance to enjoy the fireworks.

I just wanted to take a quick moment here to wish all of our readers a happy holiday season!  This is a time for both peace and for giving love to both yourself and others.  So, in that spirit, allow me to wish all of you a wonderful and safe holiday season!

Hi, y’all!

First off, if you haven’t seen the finale of Big Brother 15 yet then you need to stop reading because, otherwise, this post is going to be a huge spoiler.

So, if you’re like me, you were excited about the return of Survivor and then, as you watched the first tribal council, you suddenly remembered, “Oh yeah, one of those jerks in the final three is going to win half a million dollars tonight.”

In case you missed it or, for some reason, are not going to be able to see the show, here’s a recap of what happened on tonight’s finale (along with some commentary from me, of course):

8:30 pm — As we continue to bask in the afterglow of tonight’s triumphant episode of Survivor, we suddenly see Julie Chen — dressed in black —  on our screen.  “This was the most controversial season in the history of Big Brother,” she tells us.  Tell us something we don’t know, Julie.

This is followed by a recap of the season so far.  Needless to say, the recap is dominated by Amanda being annoying.

After the recap, we see Spencer, Andy, and GM competing during the first part of the final HoH competition.  The final three have to hold onto a bar while they roller skate in circles around a disco dance floor.  The person who holds on the longest wins.  Since it’s an endurance comp, Spencer is eliminated early.  Though GM struggles to keep her balance, she still manages to hold on longer than Andy.  GM is so happy to have won the first part of the competition that she screams until she starts coughing.

Before we go to commercial, we’re given a shot of Dr. Will sitting in the audience.  He smiles and waves at the camera and basically reminds us of what a good Big Brother player actually looks like.  Let’s hope that Big Brother 16 will feature more players like Will and less like Spencer.

8:43 — We return from commercial and, for the second time, I notice that Julie is dressed like she’s going to a funeral.  Maybe that’s her way of saying that she wishes she could bury this season of Big Brother.

The 2nd part of the HoH competition is between Andy and Spencer.  It’s one of those competitions where you have to search for objects (plastic crabs in this case) with the faces of former houseguests on them.  The faces then have to be put in order by when each houseguest was evicted.  Whoever does it the fastest wins part two of the HoH competition and gets to compete in part 3 against GM.  The competition has been edited to try to trick us into thinking that Spencer might have won but, of course, those of us who follow the live feeds already know that Andy won.  In the end, it turns out that it took Andy 21 minutes to find all of his crabs while Spencer — who looks like he’s had a lot of experience with crabs — took 36 minutes.

After winning the second part of the comp, Andy tries to talk GM into taking him to the final two.  Andy says that everyone on the jury hates him.  In the Diary room, GM says that she’s not sure who to bring.  She thinks that Andy deserves it more than Spencer does (and she’s right) but she’s not sure that she could beat Andy.

Now, we get to see Dr. Will talking to the jury.  Helen starts jumping up and down and screaming.  Dr. Will doesn’t look impressed.  Will asks who the jurors think will be the next member of the jury.  Elissa says McCrae.  Amanda glares at her.  Will says, “Let’s meet juror number 8.”  McCrae steps out.  Amanda looks like she’s about to slap him.

Will asks the jurors if being in the jury house has improved anyone’s relationships.  “No,” the jurors says, “we all still hate each other.”  Amanda starts attacking everyone.  Candice tells Amanda, “I don’t like you and it’s not killing me.”  Candice then goes on to say that she and Aaryn are now good friends.  “Does she make your bed?” Will asks.  Candice and Aaryn laugh awkwardly.

The jurors discuss the final three.  Helen praises GM for taking out Amanda.  Amanda glares.  Candice, meanwhile, says that she would never vote for GM because of the way GM treated her in the house.

Will asks the HGs about Andy.  There’s a long awkward silence and it becomes apparent that everyone’s mad at Andy but nobody wants to admit it.

Will asks about Spencer.  Everyone seems to agree that the only reason Spencer was kept around was because everyone felt they could beat him.  Helen starts trying to make a case for Spencer.

As they always seem to do during the finale, the jury tries to convince us that they’re genuinely undecided about how they’re going to vote.

9:01 — We come back from commercial.  The final three are in the back yard.  As we watch live, Andy and GM compete to be the final HoH.  It’s the usual final competition — Andy and GM are read a bunch of incomplete statements from the jurors and have to finish them.  

Andy and GM both get the first question right.

Then they both get the second question incorrect.

Andy gets the third question correct, which puts him in the lead 2-1.

Both Andy and GM get the fourth question correct.

For the fifth question, we discover that Amanda claims that she’s scared to have her friends and family see every single thing that she did in the house.  Andy gets it right.

For the sixth question, GM gets it right.  The score is now 4-3, with Andy in the lead.

For the 7th question, neither Andy nor GM get it right.

For the final question, they both get it right and, as a result, Andy becomes the final Head of Household by one point.  

As we go to commercial, I look at Andy and I ask myself, “Who wears a white bow tie with a blue shirt and white shorts?”  Seriously, Andy looks like a ventriloquist dummy tonight.

9:12 pm — We return from commercial and it’s time for Andy to pick the final juror.  Andy evicts Spencer, saying that he gave his word to GM.  Personally, I’m shocked.  I thought both Andy and GM were planning on bringing Spencer to the final but I gues Andy thinks that GM will be easier to defeat.

Spencer leaves the BB house.  Julie shakes his hand.  “JULIE!” I shout, “YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE THAT HAND’S BEEN!”  Julie interviews Spencer.  No, she does not ask him about admiring Hitler or enjoying child porn.  Julie shakes his hand again.  BLEH!

9:20 pm — We’re back from commercial.  Julie introduces the jury.  Everyone gets applause as they’re introduced but the applause for Helen, Amanda, and Aaryn is notably muted.  

The jurors ask their questions.  

Amanda asks GM what her biggest game move was.  GM says that getting Amanda out was the biggest game move and explains that was her plan before she even joined the Exterminators.

Elissa asks Andy what his biggest game move was, prior to joining the Exterminators.  Andy says it was joining up with Amanda and McCrae.

Helen asks GM what the biggest obstacle was that she had to overcome in the game.  GM says the biggest obstacle was having Nick leave.

McCrae asks Andy why the jury should vote for someone who stabbed everyone in the back?  Andy says he feels terrible about stabbing everyone in the back but he did what he had to do.  

Candice asks GM why she deserves to win, considering all of the offensive things she said.. GM says she acted the way she acted because she was upset to see Nick voted out and says that she needs the money to improve her life.

Jesse asks Andy why he lied to so many jurors.  Andy says he lied because he was a coward and he didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.  Yes, Andy actually did use the word coward to describe himself.

Spencer asks Andy why he should vote for him, considering the fact that Andy just betrayed him.  Andy says that he played a good game and deserves to win. 

I’ve been predicting that GM would win for a while but now, I’m starting to have doubts.  First off, Andy’s answers were just about perfect while GM has spent most of her time telling the jury about how much she loved Nick.  Secondly, the jury — with the exception of Jesse, Candice, and Spencer — didn’t seem to be that bitter.

9:33 PM — We come back from commercial and it’s time for Andy and GM to make their final statements to the jury.

GM tells the jurors that they all look good.  Her speech is typical GM — she says that she can only be herself, that she stayed true to herself, and that she loves all of the jurors.  She apologizes for upsetting anyone.  It’s a gracious speech.

Julie tells Andy to speak quickly.  You know what, Julie?  Shut up and let the people say what they have to say.  Anyway, Andy speaks very fast and seems to be very nervous and it’s kind of hard to follow his logic but basically, he argues that he did what he had to do and that he played the best strategic game.

The jurors cast their votes.  From the comments that everyone is making, I have a feeling that Andy’s going to win, by a vote of 8-1.  We’ll find out in a few minutes if I’m right.

9:43 pm — We’re back from commercial.  Nick, David, Jeremy, Kaitlin, and Howard are all on stage.  Julie asks Amanda who she thinks the MVP was.  Amanda admits that she’s figured out that America nominated her.  Amanda does not look happy.

Julie asks Howard what the toughest part of being in the house was.  Howard says it was having to deal with all the racial comments.  As he speaks, we get close-ups of Aaryn, Amanda, and Spencer staring at him.  Julie tells the jurors that they made national headlines for being a bunch of racists and asks Spencer how he feels about it.  “Oh, it’s terrible,” Spencer replies, apparently clueless as to why Julie is asking him.

Jeremy says that Helen was a fake.  Helen speaks and I tune her out because seriously, nobody’s got time for that.

As we go to commercial, GM shouts, “HI, NICK!”  Gina Marie, sweetie — stop.  Just stop.

9:53 — The keys are pulled and the votes are read.  Judd and Aaryn vote for Gina Marie.  Everyone else votes for Andy and that means that Andy the Rat is the winner of Big Brother 15!

Andy and GM run outside of the house.  GM hugs Nick.  Helen approaches Andy and, realizing that she’s on camera, suddenly starts to jump and down and scream, “YOU WON, BIG BROTHER!”

9:57 — We come back from commercial.  Julie says that Elissa has won the vote for America’s favorite player.  The other top two finishers were Judd and Howard.

And that’s it for Big Brother 15!  Thank you to everyone for reading and commenting this summer.  It wasn’t always the easiest season of Big Brother to watch but we survived and I think we made it fun, as well.

As I promised earlier, I will do my best to continue to post any Big Brother news that might develop between now and the summer of 2014.  If Amanda and McCrae go on a crime spree or GM gets arrested for stalking Nick, I will be sure to post it here.

I spoke with BBBlogger earlier today.  He asked me if I would be back for Big Brother 16 and I told him that I definitely would.

Until then, I’ll be dealing with my Big Brother withdrawl by leaving comments over on the Survivor blog.  Thank you again to everyone who both read and commented this season!

And, for my final question of the season — what do y’all think about Andy winning Big Brother 15?  Personally, I do think that Andy played a better game than GM and, ultimately, that’s what it’s supposed to be all about, isn’t it?  

At the same, I also think Andy definitely benefited from being surrounded by weak competition.  It’s hard to imagine Andy winning any season of Big Brother other than this one.  But, regardless, Andy will now join Dr. Will, Dan, Evel Dick, and Ian as a Big Brother winner.

Hi, everyone! 

Yesterday,  I asked everyone what they would do to make sure that Big Brother 16 is better than Big Brother 15.  Everyone replied with a lot of good ideas and if you haven’t read them under the previous post, go take a look.

Below are some of my thoughts on how to improve Big Brother.  Some of these have already been mentioned by other commenters and some of them I haven’t heard before.  However, I believe that all of them would help to make Big Brother 16 everything that Big Brother 15 was not.

1) The Big Brother House Should Be Occupied By People Who Want To Be There

Every season, thousands of people try out for Big Brother but you wouldn’t necessarily know that from listening to this season’s cast.  While Andy, McCrae, and Judd have all claimed to be superfans who have always wanted to be on the show, quite a few of this season’s houseguests were recruited by the show’s producers, who were obviously more concerned with outer appearance than inner stability.  Both Jeremy and Kaitlin claimed to have never even seen the show before entering the house.  (Kaitlin, at one point, said that she was recruited while hanging out at a bar.)  Aaryn said that she watched one season after she was cast for the show.  Elissa was on the show because she was Rachel’s sister.  Spencer’s brother is on another reality show.  As well, Amanda never made any secret of the fact that she had connections on the production staff.  One of the big complaints about this season was that the majority of the houseguests had a sense of entitlement and I think a lot of that was because most of them were specifically recruited for the show.  Since they didn’t have to make much of an effort to get into the house and probably viewed the whole experience as a career move, why should they then worry about actually playing the game?

In short, the Big Brother House should be occupied by people who actually want to be there and who have made some sort of effort to get selected to be on the show. 

2) Never Underestimate The Importance of Maturity

As a lot of you pointed out yesterday, this season suffered because everyone was around the same age.  There literally weren’t any grown-ups in the house.  In fact, this is the first season that I can remember when there wasn’t anyone over the age of 40 on the show.  Speaking as someone who is around the same age as the majority of this season’s houseguests, I know that I behave differently when I’m surrounded by people older than me than I do when I’m just hanging out with people my own age.  Having a voice of maturity on Big Brother 15 (and no, Helen did not count) would have defintely kept the house from turning into a college dorm. 

3) Do Away With The Whole Have/Have-Not Thing

A lot of people also suggested this yesterday and I agree.  The Have/Have-Not twist has never been as amusing as the Big Brother producers seem to believe and I, for one, am sick of having to listen to people talking about eating slop.  Often times, the Have/Have-Not competition itself just feels like a way to pad out the Sunday show.

4) Nominate Three Players For Eviction Instead Of Two

In theory, I like the idea of the players nominated for eviction being able to compete for the power of veto.  As well, at first, the whole idea of using the veto to backdoor and blindside another player seemed like a clever and exciting idea.  However, it’s happened so much over the past few seasons that it’s grown stale.  We now know that the true target will hardly ever be nominated and that, halfway through the week, someone will be backdoored and — as opposed to the original nominees — won’t even have the chance to compete to save himself.  It’s not only extremely unfair.  It’s also predictable.

So, why not nominate three people every week for eviction?  And instead of doing a random draw for names, how about having every single houseguest compete for the veto every week?  That way, everyone would have a fair chance to win the veto and potentially save themselves (or someone else) for eviction. 

If the veto’s used, the HoH would no longer nominate a replacement.  Instead, the vetoed nominee would come off the block and then, on Thursday’s live show, the houseguests would vote for either one of the two remaining nominees.

That would put an end to the whole backdoor thing and it would force all of the houseguests to actually compete and strategize.  It would certainly do a lot more to expose floaters than that silly MVP twist did.  Speaking of the MVP twist…

5) The MVP Twist Wasn’t Necessarily A Bad Idea

Despite the fact that I’ve spent a lot of time complaining about how the MVP twist was used this year, I don’t think it’s necessarily a lost cause.  One of the big complaints this season was that the show seemed to be favoring houseguests — like Amanda — who were pretty much hated by the majority of the people watching.  Only when America was made the MVP were the viewers allowed to express their feelings about Amanda.  So, I think next season, America should be the MVP every week.  The third nominee should always be determined by America.  And the houseguests should be told from the beginning that America will be picking the third nominee so that way, they can know that, for whatever reason, the viewing public is not happy with them.

If nothing else, it would give the viewers a chance to vent some frustration.

6) Allow The Outgoing HoH To Compete To Be The New HoH

This is another one that I know has been discussed on this site before.  It really is a good idea.  If the same houseguest continually wins HoH week-after-week — well, that should only encourage the other houseguests to step up their game.    This season, HoH after HoH was terrified to make a big move because they knew that they would extremely vulnerable the next week.  This, of course, allowed Amanda and other to get their way simply by being bullies.

Speaking of competing for HoH, what if the winner of the HoH competition was given the option of either becoming HoH herself or naming another player HoH?  I don’t know if that would necessarily work or if it would just be more trouble than its worth.  But, it would definitely have the potential to make things more interesting.

7) Only The HoH Can Sleep In The HoH Room

I have to admit that I came up with this one mostly because I got tired of constantly seeing Amanda and McCrae in the HoH room. 

8) Allow America To Pick The Final HoH

Instead of dragging things out with a three-part HoH competition, why not ask the viewers to vote for the final head of household?  If nothing else, this would give the viewers a chance to let the final three know what they think about them and their gameplay.

9) Who Needs a Jury?

As opposed to Survivor juries (who usually manage to put aside their anger and vote for the person who deserves to win, regardless of how much they hate that person), Big Brother juries are usually so bitter that it’s hard to take them seriously when it comes time for them to cast their votes.  Consider last season, for instance, when the jury basically spent the whole finale whining about getting outplayed by Dan.  The fact of the matter is that Big Brother juries usually ask weak questions that were obviously scripted for them by production and it’s rare that the answers ever make any difference in the way they vote.

In fact, the best thing about the Big Brother jury was getting to see them in the jury house.  However, lately, the BB producers haven’t even been showing us the jury house until the final week of the season.  So, I think that the producers should either go back to giving us a weekly jury house segment during the Thursday live show or they should just do away with the jury all together.

My idea?  Allow the viewers to pick the winner.  That way, the houseguests would not only have to strategize to make it all the way to the final two but they would also have to make some sort of effort to keep the viewers on their side, as well. 

One of the major issues people have had this season is the feeling that neither the houseguests nor the producers have had much concern about keeping their viewers happy.  By doing away with the jury and allowing America to pick the final winner, Big Brother would be letting its loyal viewers know that they do matter.

10) Build An Entirely New House

Because, seriously, who wants to live in a house that was once occupied by Spencer?

As for Big Brother 15, it all ends on Wednesday night.  Who will be the final Head of Household and who will win the jury’s vote?  We’ll find out tomorrow!

Hi, y’all:

As Big Brother slowly comes to an end, not much is going on in the house.  Part 3 of the HoH competition will take place on Wednesday.  It’ll be Gina Marie vs. Andy and whichever one wins will probably take Spencer to the final two.

Until Wednesday, the final three are just hanging out and spending most of their time talking about how little they think of the former houseguests who will be deciding who walks out of the house with half a million dollars.  For whatever reason, they especially seem to hate Elissa.

When they’re not complaining about Elissa, Andy and Spencer are spending their time speculating about whether or not Julie was drunk during last week’s live eviction.  

Seriously, when Gina Marie is the classiest person in the house, you know you’ve got some problems!

Unlike some people, I’m not prepared to declare this to be the worst season of Big Brother ever.  Big Brother 9 will always have that title, if just because the end result of Adam winning was him using the money to try to set himself up as a drug lord and going to prison as a result.

I have to admit, though, that I could totally imagine Spencer using his prize money to try to go all Breaking Bad and set up a meth ring.

As for last night’s episode, it was the annual Big Brother clip show.  These clip shows always seem rather awkward to me.  It’s always obvious that the houseguests have been ordered to sit in the kitchen and pretend to have a spontaneous conversation about the season.  Andy may be a good liar but he’s a terrible actor and that was pretty obvious during last night’s episode.

For the most part, the previously unseen footage was nothing surprising.  

We got to see Jeremy stealing the wine and then threatening to scalp everyone.  I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that I’m glad Jeremy got voted out early.

We got to see Amanda and McCrae’s wedding.  I have to admit that the spectacle was kinda sickening just because I know, from the live feeds, that Amanda was wearing an unwashed bed sheet.  Playing the role of the minister, Andy looked like an anemic vampire.

We got to see a bit more of Amanda bullying Elissa.  As I watched that, I seriously found myself wondering how even Amanda could possibly be so deluded to think that her behavior would lead to a positive outcome.

We also got to see Amanda and GinaMarie going at it the night before Amanda was evicted.  As much as I dislike Amanda, I have to admit that it always annoyed me that McCrae would never stand up for her.  Seriously, way to be a crappy boyfriend.

Previous clip shows have always featured at least a few quirky or fun moments that served to humanize the houseguests.  Last night’s clip show was just one fight after another.

Since this season began, we’ve been talking about what should have been done differently.  As the season comes to a close, now seems like a good time to ask: “What would you do to make Big Brother 16 better than Big Brother 15?”  

I’ll be sharing some of my ideas tomorrow.

Hi, y’all!

As always happens when there’s only three houseguests left in the house, there really isn’t much going on in the house.  GM won the first part of the HoH competition.  Last night, Andy won the second part.  So, that means that GM and Andy are going to compete in the third part.  The winner will be Head of Household and will choose who she or he wants to take to the final two.

Andy has promised GM that he’ll take her to the final two.  GM has promised Andy the same thing.  However, I think they’ve also both promised to take Spencer to the end as well.  So, who knows what will happen? 

We, as viewers, all know that both GM and Andy would easily defeated Spencer but do GM and Andy know that?  Both of them have said that they think Spencer could win because of the number of times he’s been on the block without getting evicted.

Anyway, that’s pretty much it for what’s going on in the house. 

On tonight’s show, I believe that CBS will be showing us previously untelevised footage — stuff like GM and Amanda getting into that fight the night before Amanda was evicted and, of course, Amanda and McCrae’s wedding.  BLEH!  I’ll be more impressed if CBS shows everyone (as opposed to just those of us who follow the live feeds) Amanda fantasizing about killing the other houseguests.

However — and this should be fun! — Dr. Will is also going to stop by the jury house and I can’t wait to see what he has to say to them.

Finally, I want to address two questions that I was asked in the comments section of the previous post.

First off, I was asked if I would keep track of what happens to the houseguests after they leave the jury house and discover what the rest of the world thinks about them.  I’ll do my best.  I can’t guarantee that any of these HGs will ever make the news again after this season does but if they do, I’ll be sure to post about it here.

Secondly, I was asked about whether or not I would be writing about Survivor.  I know that BBBlogger has a survivor site (http://www.survivorblog.com) and, while I might not be writing there, I will definitely be leaving comments.  I will also be watching and live-blogging each episode of Survivor over on my twitter account: http://www.twitter.com/LisaMarieBowman. 

Personally, I’m looking forward to Survivor this year!  A few days ago, I was thinking about how much fun it would be if Jeff Probst had come into the house and guest hosted one of this season’s competitions.  I would have loved to have seen these entitled houseguests having to deal with a host who pulls no punches.  I can just imagine Jeff saying: “Amanda, falling way behind in this competition!”

Hey, y’all!  

Happy Friday the 13th!

Last night’s episode was hilarious!  For the past few weeks, I’ve been hoping that Big Brother would allow us to see what’s happening in the jury house and last night, they finally did. 

And I’m happy to say that the jury house turned out to be just as crazy as I was hoping it would be.  Along with reminding us that people like Amanda, Helen, and Aaryn now have no chance to win the game, the jury house also reminded us why Candice, Jessie, and Judd were so popular with the viewers.

Much as we all knew she would, Aaryn put on a look of fake contrition and offered up an awkward apology to Candice and Helen.  Aaryn explained she said the things she said did not represent who she was.  Okay, so why did she say it?  The best part of Aaryn’s apology was the obvious way that Candice ignored her.

Hilariously, Helen is still trying to present herself as being a Big Brother expert.  Whenever she spoke, I found myself tweeting: “STFU, Helen!”

Did you notice that every time the jurors tried to guess who would be showing up next, they always guessed Andy?  Even they can’t believe it!

We also got to see Amanda attempting to argue that McCrae deserved to win and I loved the way Candice told her off.  Meanwhile, it seems like GM will have at least 3 votes if she makes it to the final two — Aaryn, Elissa, and Helen pretty much said they would vote for her.

Speaking of Amanda and McCrae, Amanda is probably really mad right now because, last night, McCrae was voted out of the house.  Before they voted him out, GM, Andy, and Spencer sat him down and told him all about the Exterminators.  I’m sure some people will compare this to the Brigade doing the same thing to Britney before voting her out.  

The difference, of course, is that Britney was a legitimately strong player and the Brigade was a real alliance, as opposed to an accidental alliance founded by a bunch of floaters.

But, regardless, the Exterminators are the last alliance standing!

Your final three: Spencer the Scary, Andy the Rat, and last — but not least — Gina Marie the Frustrating!

What do the Final Three all have in common, beyond being controversial and unpopular with a lot of viewers?

They’re all unemployed!

Technically, Spencer has a job but that’s just because he’s in a union and therefore, he can’t be fired until he comes back to work.

Gina Marie has been fired but she doesn’t know it yet.

And, today, the College of DuPage posted the following on their facebook page:

Andy Herren has formerly worked for College of DuPage as a part-time instructor. He does not currently work for the College. Any behavior or language he uses on the CBS reality show “Big Brother” does not represent the opinions or values of College of DuPage.

The show concludes on Wednesday (and I’m going to predict right now that GM is going to win) but first, on Sunday, we’ve been told that Dr. Will Kirby is going to stop by the jury house and basically tell everyone that they suck.
