BB9: Parker & Jen Tabbed To Evict First Couple Wednesday

by soonerryan on February 13, 2008

Our first power couple is on the clock.

That’s right. Gone is the nomenclature of seasons past on Big Brother. Instead of Heads of Household, we have power couples because this season’s BB game is all about the showmance.

Or love. Or Valentine’s Day. Or reconciliation. Or bitching.

Yeah, that’s right. In true Jen Johnson fashion, a Big Brother (‘Til Death Do You Part) houseguest threw a fit on the very first episode.

But I want to take a couple steps back for those who didn’t get a chance to watch or DVR the first episode on Tuesday night. This season’s Big Brother game, the first winter season in American show history, will be played by couples.

Couples bunk together. Play together. Scheme together. Evict together and go home together.

The exact nature of the season’s length relative to how the game will be played is not known. Executives have said BB9 (is that what we call it, or is it that other ’til-death name?) will be a full season, but any of us who can do basic math realize that eight couples and seven evictions only equal 56 days.

Let’s not dwell on that because if you missed the first episode, you missed a ton. We need to play catch-up.

First and foremost, Parker and Jen comprises Big Brother’s first power couple, and they will single-handedly evict another couple Wednesday night. It’s their pick. No vote. Just “gotta go.”

Incidentally, it looks like the CBS show schedule will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday this season, and I have to commend producers and schedulers for having the brass balls to go head to head with American Idol.

The odds-on favorite for first-to-be-evicted honors goes to public relations manager Adam and 45-year-old Sheila. Unless Sheila gets evicted on the spot come Wednesday, we’ll likely be hearing more about her because, at one time, she was a Penthouse Pet.

You know Penthouse, right? The magazine you kept in the hiding place even after Mom caught you with the “tasteful” Playboy?

Anyway, each woman in the house was matched up with the man closest to being their soulmate as determined by a series of personality tests and love-match forms. In one case, a dude was matched up with a dude (it’s OK, they’re both gay ;-)) — and in another case, a real-life boyfriend and girlfriend were matched with people other than themselves.

Both from Columbus, Ohio, Ryan and Jen (Jen of aforementioned power couple fame) have been living together for seven months. Big Brother has tasked them with shutting the hell up about this, much like America’s Player had to do last season.

Get discovered, and risk eviction.

You would think Big Brother could be kind and pair these kids up, to make it easy on them given that they have to sleep together, vote together, scheme together, etc. Ha!

Heck, no. Jen was matched up with a paparazzo videographer, and Ryan got matched up with a Boston-area gambling addict named Allison.

This wasn’t the only love twist, however. Sharon and Jacob were matched up as Big Brother soulmates, and they just happened to be a former couple. Jacob’s a young patriot, having gone off to serve the Red, White and Blue overseas.

However, young Jacob has a problem. He’s a cheater — and Sharon has just a tad bit of a hard time dealing with that and dealing with the fact that her Big Brother life is in his hands. They’re a couple again, like it or not.

Oh, and as for the Jen Johnson reunion tour first-night hissy fit?

That would have come from Sheila, our former Penthouse Pet, who objected to Adam not being tall, dark and handsome enough for her. And he smokes. And he calls her “ma.” And he sort of looks like an alien, albeit a friendly alien.

She whined and cried and took a compliment from Crazy James, a free-spirited homeless guy who’s been paired with the nose-ring wearing Chelsia. Cute young woman, no doubt. But Crazy James, as he likes to be called, referred to Sheila as hot, and that stroked her ego some.

My personal award for cutest young thing goes to our fair Natalie, the bikini barista, who believes in bikinis, coffee, bodies and God. Oh, and she clearly believes in silicone. Booyah!

In a twist of devilish humor (at least I thought it was funny), Natalie has been paired with a caricature straight out of Good Will Hunting in roofing foreman Matt. He brags about his biceps and is completely unable to enunciate anything ending in “ar.”

I drive a cah.

I work at a bah.

But this couple might just go fah. Why? They’re cocky as heck, and they performed well enough in the initial power couple competition to survive this first cut. One of the aspects of Big Brother I’ve never agreed with strategically is that he or she who fails first in the initial competition is typically targeted for eviction first in the name of fairness.

Why the power couple wouldn’t target a couple who is formidable is beyond me, and perhaps they will. For the initial power couple competition, Big Brother asked these couples to hang on to each other suspended in air until the last couple dropped. There was a money-laced incentive as part of the competition, but in the end, Parker and Jen used some quick negotiation with Natalie and Matt to win the first power couple designation.

So, it looks like our barista with the beautiful bosom and her big-bicepped boy-toy will be safe during tomorrow’s eviction. Of course, considering Jen is Ryan’s boyfriend in real life, one would have to surmise that she’ll do what she can to keep him in the house, even though Parker already has his eyes on eliminating the guy.

Tension. Tension.

But my gut instincts tell me this elimination is easy. The houseguests want to rid themselves of any negative energy as soon as possible, and Adam and Sheila not only failed the power couple competition first, they’re as compatible as Donald Trump and Rosie O’Donnell.

On one hand, it makes me want to see them stay. On the other, I know deep within my sould that I already loathe this Sheila person. Loathe.

However, enough of my rambling. What the heck do my BB friends think? If you haven’t signed up for the feeds, do what you need to do. I’ll keep you as updated with clips as humanly possible while maintaining some sanity and a day job — and I’ll see you right back here Wednesday night after the first eviction.

Sorry to disagree..Big Brother made a BIG mistake airing against American Idol.
I love American Idol…in fact I have only missed 2 episodes ever since it started. (and I was in the middle of moving and my cable wasn’t hooked up in time!)
Anyway, the only way I would have watched Big Brother would have been if my one true love had made a repeat appearance..Dick Donato! But, to my everlasting despair….there is no Dick Donato on Big Brother this season.
I did change back and forth during the commercials and I am really disappointed in the houseguests this year. Parker is the only one who stands out in my mind. The girls and guys are all pretty much interchangable…boring!! The only reason I know anything at all about Parker is because I am a devotee of TMZ.
Maybe I am jaded…after all..the last couple of years have produced some of the best characters seen on TV…Janelle, Dr. Will, Kaysar (my boyfriend!) and of course…Dick Donato. I just think that the casting director completely missed the boat this year. Maybe it will get better as the season goes on…but I am not holding my breath!

I’ve learned that if the power couple can’t agree on who to evict that there is a penalty. They get put up next week as a third choice for eviction

Sheila is horrible. I don’t know whether I’m a fan of Adam or not at this point, but I sure as heck feel sorry for him, being paired with her! You’d think this was the Dating Game the way she went on and on about how he wasn’t her type!

Oh what a great season appears before us! This is going to get interesting. And, I would assume, VERY fast. I agree with our beloved Big Brother Blogger regarding Sheila. I initially thought I would like her (as I’m getting close to her age and I’m a single mom of an 18 year old son). But, I’d like to think the similarities stop there. I couldn’t believe the insulting things she was saying right in front of Adam. Talk about ZERO tact. Who raised this woman? The twists with Jenn/Ryan & Sharon/Jacob are definitely fascinating. I can’t wait to see what will happen next. I am definitely surprised that Big Brother (in their infinite wisdom) did not find someone of a more suitable age to pair with Sheila. I mean there was no other guy there in her age bracket. But, all the more fun to see it unwind – dramatically and quickly. Well folks – like I’ve said before: hang on cause it’s gonna be a bumpy ride. THANK GOODNESS FOR REALITY TV!!!

Well on After Dark we’ve got an idea of what’s going to be happening over the next couple of episodes. This is because despite the crawl at the bottom of the screen, Jen and Parker are not Power Couple anymore. Here’s what seems to have happened. Jen and Parker evicted Jacob and Sharon. They also named the guinea pigs after them. In the next PC competition it looks like Alex and Amanda won. We’re now about a week into their reign as PC and still no Nominations, Veto, Luxury, or Food Competitions. It seems like, since the reveal of Jen and Ryan’s relationship, Ryan and Allison are an assumed choice for a nomination, and so the remaining drama is to see who will be put up against them.

I agree with you Lori & Christine, Shelia is very rude. I would hate for Adam to leave but she need to be gone right NOW. Jen should have kept her mouth close about her and Ryan, you can’t tell everything. And I feel bad for Parker because they are gone to get voted out because of that, or Ryan and his mate Allison. Money make you turn on your brother not even to mention your woman or your man.

I love BB, I watch every season with my husband and we call my mom during the ads! I have to say, while this looks like a fun season, it seems very repetetive, not the partners part really, but Jacob and Sharon were like the enemies last season, and Jenn and Ryan are like Dick and Danielle, now DnD were enemies going in, they were blood, they would bond together and tough it out for the cash. Now Jenn screwed up and showed her hand, so maybe this is a pointless rant, but i can’t help but think it looks so much like last season.
on a side note I LOVE the couples concept, might like it better if it were real couples. However my 54yr old mom wants the producers to know that people over 30 watch and she doesn’t watch just to see people f**k (her word!!)

i can’t wait to see it all unfold!!

i watch the feed last night also and think you are right. I think Jacob and Sharon are gone and there is a new power couple. This is how CBS will make it a fast season. Voting 2 BBplayer off each week.
Dont know if I am going to like the way CBS set up the game play. I am not a stright lace but have couples sleep together on prime time TV send it to MTV sorry CBS love bigbrother but what were you thinking. Move it to a Cable show on showtime.
will wait a fee more show and see what happens before I turn it off for good.

Oh wow! I hope that the news about Jacob and Sharon being gone is just a rumor. That was one of the first most interesting aspects in my opinion. Remember out Dick and Danielle ended up regaining their relationship last year? I thought it very interesting that they were found to be sould mates and thought it was a shame their relationship (since childhood) was sacrificed because of the war. It would have been interesting to watch him try to win back, what they both described as the love of their lives.

Oh yea, Shiela NEEDS TO GO! Bye MA!

OK, what was BB thinking going up against American Idol… I missed BB last night because I was watching IDOL… They could have begun an hour earlier and made everyone happy, but instead they had to do it the hard way. It will be interesting to see how the overnight rating look.

Anyway, I did pop over during commercils. I understand the concept of soul mates, this could be an interesting twist to the game… but what I saw of the HGs left me wanting more… and I think its gonna be because that Evel Dick and Danile are a hard act to follow… anyway, I will be tuning in and trying to get caught up win Idol isn’t on, but so far I am not overly impressed…

Well, I’ll have to come back and re-read all these comments and the blog after I watch the premiere. We have DirectTV and last night we had a huge snow/ice storm and my dish was rendered inoperable, so ALL my shows were unable to be DVR’ed. I had my mother tape BB for me, so I’ll get the tape and see how it went. Being a 2nd shifter, I’ll likely always be at least a half day behind on here. Bear with. :o)

The reason Sharon dumped Jacob was not because of the war but because he hurt her very bad when he was messing around with another girl. She thought there love was just for each other but he let him man thing lead him wrong. Bad for him, sad for her. I would not want to be in the same house with a cheating loser like him. I wish they could have kick Jacob and Parker off.

Looking at the CBS website still leads you to believe there will only be one winner! I’m so confused! Jen really messed up by telling about Ryan. They must not have ever really wanted to win the money to begin with. She had to know going in that some sacrifices would have to be made. I’m close to Sheila’s age and I am ashamed at the example she is setting for her son on her judgement of people! She didn’t even give Adam a chance to say hello!

I don’t see how CBS is gonna make BB9 run for 2-3 mos. with 2 ppl getting evicted at a time, this was just going to be a fill in anyway due to the writers strike……i loved the show, MA is a total bitch, hell if i was her age and i’m past it, i wouldn’t mind being shacked up with a younger guy, granted he ain’t all that, but looks aren’t everything….and she’s not all that either…….but hey you never know right?…….opposites attract?……..i didn’t think Ryan and g/f would be able to keep their secret long, you could see he wasn’t handling it well…….can’t wait for tonite though even though know i know whats going on……..

Hey Matt…the show is on CBS.COM if you want to watch it.

I am so happy with how this season has started…different than seasons past but enough similarity to be exciting.

My guess is the couple thing will last for the first part….then they will have to stop it sometime to get one winner….again…just my guesses.

Well, HELL!! The show was GREAT!!! And then…I turned on BBAD and WTF????!!!! It was all out war!! Kind of ruined my happy dance!

Why the heck did Jen tell Parker about Ryan? What an idot. the idea was to string the HGs along halfway….! And if Parker said, “Are you with us or against us?”…one more time!!! In a way, I understand his and Allison’s position, but…in a way…it could have and can work FOR them. They each have “six” supportive votes. But I’m telling you, Alex is playing double agent…no matter how many times he says he has Parker’s back. And Jen was smart to point it out.

Thank God, Parker finally got over his stupid rampage and shut up! When he finally sat down to talk to Jen (which, by the way, KNOWS how to play this game, except for revealing her relationship…NEVER will figure out that one), he calmed down and now they are a “couple” again AND Parker and Ryan apologized to each other! The only thing I didn’t like…was watching Alex leaning against the door trying to spy and listen in on their conversation.

A lot of twist in such a short time. Approximately, about FIVE DAYS have already gone by. Jacob and Sharon are LONG GONE. You’ll find out about that tonight.
Here’s my take with the “couples”:
Amanda/Alex: Defininetly to watch out for. Amanda is SO lucky she got
Alex. She is driving everyone CRAZY, swinging her HOH
key chain ALL the time! Alex is crafty!! Promises too early
in the game to alliances that he has no intention of
keeping.
Chelsea/James: Chelsea seems like a cool chick. A little shifty and loves to
brag about her Walmart shopping sprees! Strategy?
Definitely a gossiper! Seems loyal to “the boys!” James?
WOW! I misread him at first. Seems cool, level-headed,
can tell he’s there to have and provide a good time. ” I like
what he’s stepping in!” Again, possible strategic couple,
depending on how big Chelsea’s mouth is!
Nat/Matt: Hmm…. too early to tell. Natalie has some “baggage” from
her youth. (Parents leaving…just her and her sister) She
already has been gossiped about (could be jealous issues
over her “goodies!” Matt, well, all you have to do is just
watch him and listen to his voice…and that sums us
“shallow Matt.”
Allison/Ryan: Ryan is one likeable fellow. He DID NOT go through any
of the regular channels in trying out. He was just basically
thrown in by the BB Producers. Good thing he’s a nice guy
OMG, Allison, is a sloppy drunk! She said she HAD to be
at the BB house to seperate from the reality of her life,
choking back the tears of course. She seems really
fickle. Too bad for Ryan. Allison is lucky to be paired
up with Ryan tho.
Jen/Parker: Parker comes across as an ego-manic. You gotta like
his “real” moments tho. When he’s calm and thinking…..
he’s “ON!” Now Jen…complete dumbass for revealing
hers and Ryan’s relationship. She did a good job
fooling Parker when they “talked” and claimed that she
would vote out Ryan if she had to. Said she only looking
at the numbers and that she didn’t come to make
friends. Friends were a bonus! Can’t figure when she’s
telling the truth.
Neil/Josh: Can’t get a read on Neil yet. Called Jen out. Love Josh!
Well…I do right now. He’s pretty cool.
Adam/Sheila: YUCK and YUCK!! WTH were the Producers thinking?

Won’t be able to surpass BB8! If you don’t have BBBAD, you’re missing out. But then again, you might just like to watch the Producers take. Remember, they are about five days ahead right now. Definitely interesting, huh?

i think that everyone is under-estimating chelsia and james
james seem very kind-hearted and fun, he’s not gonna start drama and he’s got the heart to win. chelsia seems like a sweet girl and is really competitive and people don’t see that. they are fun and don’t drive everyone crazy talking strategy the whole time. just like nobody is mentioning them in their blogs, the ppl in the house with forget about them too and eventually get screwed when james and chels start kicking ass in the challenges.
